How does a Newb Get Started's Avatar

Please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but I'm new at Flex Development so any assistance would be most appreciated.

I was looking at Robotlegs' demos and downloaded them to my machine.. however I what I didn't see was how to actually use them. What I mean is that it wasn't very apparent to me on how to get started to learn from the examples.

I'm using the plugin version of Flex Builder 3 in Eclipse....

The example I wanted to begin with was the one for Google Maps. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance....

    Hi David,

The demos are a little trickier to set up since we removed Flex/Flash Builder specific project files - many developers use different tools, so the project files were getting messy and in the way.

You'll need to create your own project in Flash/Flex Builder.

Drop the Robotlegs Framework SWC into your “libs” folder.

If you are building a plain ActionScript project you might need to create the “libs” folder manually:

Right click the project, and create a New Folder called “libs”.
Right click the project, open “properties”, “Flex Build Path”, “Library path”, “Add SWC Folder…”, and add the folder “libs”.

Then you can copy the source from one of the Robotlegs demos into your project.

Let us know if you have any problems with this.

Ok I gave it valiant attempt to get the demo for Google Maps working using Flex, but had a couple of errors. I zipped up my project and wondered you or anyone else could look at to see where I could have possibly made a mistake.

The errors that I have in my console are:

1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Vector

It is the same error occurring twice and one pointing to and

I have a feeling it's just missing an import statement.. If it is, what should I add?

I guess I also have another question which is... Because Flex is considered a framework in itself, what is the advantage of using another framework such as robotlegs? I'm just trying to understand the whole MVC concept and the advantage of using one...

    Thank you,

    David G.

This example (most actually) were written with Flex 4 SDK and FP10 (thus the Vector error)

Sweet.. Thanks for that tip... I changed the required compiler from FP9 to FP10 and the error went away....
